Bio

News:  Bethany Kandel is a former New York City news reporter for USA Today, the Associated Press, and the New York Daily News.  Her freelance articles have appeared in numerous publications including The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, Good Housekeeping, Family Circle, and Travel & Leisure.

Parenting:  Since the birth of her first son, Bethany has focused primarily on parenting, writing articles for publications such as Child, Parents, Expecting, Baby Talk, and Parenting.  She created the “Expert Parent” column for Ladies Home Journal online (www.LHJ.com) and was a regular contributor to New York Post’s Saturday Kids’ page.

Bethany has written for many special interest publications including Unilever’s HomeBasics and Nestles’ Very Best Kids.  She wrote the “Parenting On the Road” column for Hampton Inns Magazine, and helped develop and write copy for a special birthday website for ToysRUs.

Health:  More recently, after being diagnosed with breast cancer, Bethany has been writing articles on the subject for Woman’s Day, the New York Post, and PARADE.

Mitzvahs:  She is also the founding editor and creator of MITZVAH, a biannual, upscale magazine about the bar/bat mitzvah process for New York families.

Author:  Bethany is the author of the parenting resource book, The Expert Parent: Everything You Need to Know From All the Experts in the Know (Pocket Books), and an educational children’s book, Trevor’s Story: Growing Up Biracial (Lerner).

Speaker:  Bethany has made numerous television appearances and often speaks on various parenting subjects.

Education:  She has a B.A. from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, and a M.S. degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

Location:  She lives in New York City with her husband and two sons.
